As winter loosens its grip on Southeast Alaska, eagles begin to congregate along the coast, anticipating one of nature’s grand spectacles. Hidden from view by the green reflections of lush rainforest is the return of millions of herring to spawn. While in the shallow near-shore water, the herring are easy pickings for eagles. So easy, in fact, that thousands of the beautiful raptors gather each spring to feast on these small fish.
