Following years of drought, in 2017, the wildflower phenomenon known as a “super bloom” in California’s Carrizo Plain National Monument was called one of the greatest in decades. It is a sight that must be savored at least once in a lifetime. Hundreds of different species form crazy-quilt patterns. So poignant is the profusion of color, satellites have documented it while orbiting the earth.
