As a January snowstorm covers the landscape in a fresh coat of white, a great horned owl patiently waits for a sign of prey below. With the falling snow dampening even the slightest whisper, this near silent predator can be assured it will have no problem sneaking up on prey when something is spotted. Though they are year-round residents, great horned owls are not a common sight during a Jackson Hole winter as the very deep snow of a typical winter can make hunting difficult.
